Josip Periša on Ethics and the Aesthetic Value of Sophocles’ Antigone
Josip Periša participated in the 24th Lošinj Days of Bioethics, held from 17 to 20 May 2026 in Mali Lošinj, where he presented a paper entitled “The Relationship between Ethics, Aesthetic Value and Ontology: The Case of Sophocles’ Antigone”.
Drawing on Aristotle’s Poetics and the concepts of mimesis and catharsis, he examined the relationship between the ethical dimension, aesthetic value, and ontological status of a literary text. Using Antigone as an example, he also addressed the question of how a fictional literary text can shape ethical attitudes and how its ethical and aesthetic dimensions are interconnected.
