The central part of the project takes place in collaboration with secondary schools, in real teaching conditions and through direct work with students. The project team is developing a teaching model and testing it where its value needs to become apparent: in the classroom. Collaboration with schools includes preparing teachers, designing teaching materials and carefully planning work with experimental and control groups so that the effects of the innovative approach can be reliably compared with conventional teaching practices.
Pre-tests and post-tests will monitor changes in literary comprehension, emotional engagement and interpretation skills. Students’ reflections, comics, scripts, storyboards and other creative work will form a particularly important part of the research. They will provide valuable research material showing how students experience, transform and interpret literary texts, as well as illustrating the teaching process. Teachers’ and students’ experiences will also be monitored systematically to establish which aspects of the model work, which need adjustment and how it can be applied in different school settings.
Alongside school-based research, the project places strong emphasis on training and knowledge transfer. At least four workshops are planned for secondary school teachers, librarians and other professionals working with reading, literature and education. They will focus on practical methods: using film and film adaptations in literature teaching, reading and creating comics, bibliotherapy techniques, developing emotional literacy, and analysing students’ written and visual responses.
Particular attention will be paid to assessing work that goes beyond traditional written responses. Teachers and other professionals will receive tools for analysing comics, scripts, visual interpretations and transmedia tasks. The aim is to provide clear criteria that allow students’ creative and emotional responses to be assessed as seriously as conventional interpretations, without adding unnecessary complexity to teaching.
A third major area of activity concerns research and professional dissemination. Team members will present findings at national and international conferences, professional meetings and universities, as well as in schools, libraries and healthcare institutions. The project therefore shares its results with people who can apply them directly. This dissemination connects academic research, educational practice, cultural institutions and professional work with different groups, making the model of literature teaching available to a wider community of teachers, researchers and practitioners.
