Bibliotherapy series at the Božidar Adžija Library
Davor Piskač has launched a cycle at the Božidar Adžija Library in Zagreb comprising more than 20 bibliotherapy workshops dedicated to Alessandro Baricco’s novel “Ocean Sea”.
Through the stories of its unusual characters, the novel explores themes of loss, longing, fear, change, and the search for inner peace, with the sea serving as a powerful symbol of their emotional states and personal transformations.
The workshops employ a method of guided and focused close reading to explore the novel and deepen participants’ understanding of the text. This approach uses the bibliotherapeutic MED cycle, a form of group sociotherapeutic text analysis based on cognitive psychotherapy methods.
Particular attention is given to the characters’ emotional states and to the ways in which their thoughts, emotions, and actions shape relationships and the development of the story, while also creating space for participants to reflect on their own experiences.
