Vladimira Rezo on Political Influence on the Croatian School Reading List
Assoc. Prof. Vladimira Rezo, PhD, Co-Coordinator of Research Activities on the Innovations in Reading and Teaching Literature project, has prepared the chapter “A Little Wartime Diary: Political Interference in the Croatian School Reading List” for the international volume “Children’s War Literature in the Making”, forthcoming from John Benjamins Publishing Company.
Using Stjepan Tomaš’s “A Little Wartime Diary” as a case study, the chapter examines the influence of the political and social context on the shaping of Croatian school reading lists and the ways in which children’s literature contributes to representations of the Croatian War of Independence and the formation of the national literary canon.
The chapter emerged from the international workshop Surrounded by Conflicts: Children’s War Literature in the Making, held at Aarhus University in Denmark in June 2025.
